The world is made of famous inventions. They replaced manual labour and gave people a lot of comfort. But do we remember all their creators? Here are some facts about the men of genius that will refresh your memory.

Leonardo da Vinci, an Italian inventor, artist, architect and scientist, had great interest in engineering. It was he who made detailed sketches of the airplane, the helicopter and the parachute, the submarine, the armored car and rapid — fire guns, the pump loi draining wet areas and ball bearings. Da Vinci had many other incredible ideas that were centuries ahead of his time.

Benjamin Franklin, an outstanding American statesman, writer, printer and inventor, extensively experimented with electricity. His experiments led to the development of the lightning rod (conductor). He also invented the Franklin stove and bifocal glasses thai let people read and see far away. The idea of daylight savings i une was first proposed by him in 1784.

Alexander Graham Bell, a Scottish inventor, scientist, teacher, invented in 1876 a telephone — an apparatus that was able to transmit speech sounds over the electic wires. Today it is the most widely used telecommunication device. A.G. Bell also improved Thomas Edison's phonograph, developed his own new technique for teaching the deaf to speak, invented the hydroairplane, a wireless phone and other useful things.

Nikola Tesla, a Serbian inventor, invented the radio in 1895, fluorescent lights, the Tesla Coil, remote control devices and many other important inventions. He held 111 patents!

Tftomas Alva Edison — a famous American inventor, who invented the phonograph — a sound recording device and the motion — picture projector, incandescent electric light bulb and other inventions that revolutionized the world.

Alfred Nobel, a Swedish inventor and industrialist, invented many powerful explosives and explosive devices, such as detonator, dynamite, blasting gelatin and others. He also made several inventions in the fields of optics, biology, electrochemistry and physiology.

A. Nobel left much of his fortune to award the Nobel Prizes to people who made advancements in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology / Medicine, Literature and Peace.

Lumière Brothers (Auguste and Louis), the French, invented in 1895 portable cinématographe served as a camera, a film processing unit and a projector.

In spite of the fact that many inventors from different countries claimed to be the cinema inventors, the Lumière Brothers came just at the right moment with their inventions. They opened the motion picture era and are credited with the world's first public film screening on the 28-th of December, 1895.

Wright Brothers (Wilbur and Orville) invented, designed and in 1903 made the first working airplane.

Vladimir Zworykin — a talented Russian inventor and engineer, who moved to the USA, invented the television or iconoscope (cathode — ray tube) in 1923. He is rightly called "the Father of Television" because his "storage principle" is the basis of modern television.

Igor Sikorsky — a Russian-born aeronautical engineer, who moved to the USA in 1919 and became a manufacturer, having set up an aircraft company. In 1930 Sicorsky succeded in producing the first successful helicopter.

Chester Carlson — an American inventor, who invented in 1938 xerography for making paper copies. His revolutionary device made photocopying common and inexpensive.
